FVS Update
We’re writing to let you know about a technical message some employers and payroll platforms may be receiving following recent updates to our Fund Validation Service (FVS). You may see notices indicating a USI has “closed” on 19 May — please ignore these messages.
What happened
- We submitted updates to the FVS (contact number and bank account details), the FVS records both the previous and new detail lines — one ending 19 May and the new one effective 20 May.
- This behaviour is expected from the ATO’s FVS: any update creates a historical line plus a new active line. We did not end-date any USI.
- Some external clearing houses and payroll systems (notably platforms that do not accept future-dated items) are only reading the first (historical) line and are incorrectly advising their users the USI is closed. In at least one case (Employment Hero) this has temporarily blocked employer remittances.
What you need to do
- Ignore any messages that say a USI is closing on 19 May — the USI remains active from 20 May. You can continue to remit to the usual USI and fund.
- If your payroll provider or clearinghouse has blocked remittance, ask them to re-process using the active (post-20 May) FVS line or to contact their integration support team to ensure they accept future-dated FVS records.
What we’re doing
- We will raise the issue with clearinghouses and industry forums to encourage wider fixes so they correctly read future-dated FVS records.
- If the platform you use remains blocked, we will work with you and the platform to restore remittances as a priority.
We apologise for any disruption and appreciate your patience.
