Payday Super is rolling out from 1 July 2026 to all employees who receive superannuation. It means that, from that date, your employer will need to pay your super to your super fund at each pay day. At the moment, while you may see your regular super contributions on your regular payslips, your employer only needs to make payments into your super once a quarter (although many employers pay more frequently than that).

What does it mean for me?

Payday super means you will receive your super within a few days of each payday. Doing this will allow your super to earn returns for longer and can have a real impact on your retirement balance.

The Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia estimates that a 25-year old median income earner could retire with $6,000 more at retirement through receiving their super fortnightly instead of quarterly.

What do I need to do?

Nothing!

If you’ve just started employment or you’ve recently changed your super fund, make sure that your employer has your correct super fund details.

Depending on your employer’s payroll timing, your super will be paid weekly, fortnightly or monthly from 1 July 2026.

Super takes a bit longer than a bank credit to land in your account, so it may not show up in your super balance immediately. Your employer has 7 business days after payment to make sure their super payments reach us.

If you’re concerned that your super isn’t showing up, check your payslip, talk to your employer or give us a call on 1300 307 844. If you’re worried you’re not being paid super, see the unpaid super page of the ATO website for the steps you can take.

What super fund is my employer using for me?

If you’re not sure of which super funds you have, you can check the details in the Super section of your MyGov account.

Speak to your employer if you need to confirm they’re using the super fund you want them to contribute to.
